Original Release: Jaleco, 1987, Arcade / NES

Jaleco’s unlicensed baseball title was popular in its time for its fresh perspective and digitized voices.

I think this game’s success in its time was more about the unique pitching perspective and the digitized voices than the gameplay. There’s very little control both pitching and hitting, and fielding has the same problems that almost all other 8-bit baseball games do – too slidey and sloppy, you automatically get assigned a guy who you can’t switch and may not be the closest to the ball, and the AI is completely worthless.

Also no real MLB teams or players, though you get 12 teams based in American cities (but not with corresponding colors).

It has a reputation as one of the best 8-bit baseball titles but I don’t feel it really lives up to it once you shop around.
