This Japan-only 1988 title from Konami looks a bit like Sensible Soccer, a series that was huge in Europe but never really registered in footy-indifferent US … this came out years before the first entry in that series, though, so I wonder if it was an inspiration.

Anyway, it seems decent but there was one big obstacle in playing … I’m not sure if it’s two player only, or I just couldn’t manage to navigate to the single player mode through the Japanese menus.

Looks like it could be pretty good, though, might revisit it if someone ever bothers with an English translation.
