Lotus Land (Konami, 2014)
Review by: C. M0use
Lotus Land somewhat resembles Konami’s popular “China” series of 3×5 slots, but swaps for a Thai theme and trades out the piles of lucrative free spins for more frequent regular wins. You often see it recommended as a low-cost low-volatility grinding slot, and after playing around with it for a few hours total I completely agree with that assessment; it’s about the best “grinder” I’ve found so far that’s available in both online and offline real-money casinos.
A small minimum bet covers all paylines, and you get reasonably frequent wins ranging up to 10x to 20x your wager amount. The “big wins” come in two forms – luck into a face full o’ tigers on the reels and you can go up to 100x your bet amount or so, or getting a long series of re-triggers when you land free spins (three special symbols at any position to start a set of at least eight free spins, but you can re-trigger with just two symbols).
The RTP I’m seeing around is about 96%, which is on the high end; not the ABSOLUTE highest available but you’ll get more of that back more quickly with the frequent line wins rather than having to hang in for bonus games.
In fact, I found the free spins to be very feast-or-famine and usually a disappointment. Be prepared for them to give you literally nothing, or just 2x to 3x your wager. You really have to re-trigger a bunch to get anywhere, I did have one epic streak that lasted near five minutes and ended up netting about 500x the wager amount, but nothing memorable other than that.
If you’re looking to grind for points, though, this is definitely one to keep an eye out for. Konami’s 3x5s are usually more moderate volatility and force you to chase free spins, but this one came out a few years after that initial wave and is designed a little different.
