A cowboy-themed game that lacks compelling reasons to play
Review by: C. M0use
The theming of this one appears to be Old West at first glance, but get into it and it’s actually space cowboys … shucks howdy! (or insert Firefly reference here instead, I didn’t watch that show).
The big bonus gimmick with this game is that your cumulative win total during a session gradually progresses you through a “space map” during which you periodically collect “bounties” (bonuses you just get for reaching them) on I guess space ne’er-do-wells? It would be nice if they actually showed the space criminals, that could add some serious charisma to the game, but that all just kinda happens invisibly in the background.
Anyway, the bonus feature is not just unexciting but also unrewarding, with rather paltry bounties compared to the massive win totals you have to rack up to get to them. The game also doesn’t have any paylines that don’t require matching across all five reels, so you get a lot of totally dead spins in the mix.
I’m a mark for Cowboy Bebop so this game could have really landed with me, but instead it went in the opposite direction and really turned me off. Felt like a boring money sink. I was surprised to find it supposedly has a 97% RTP, but I would classify it as being pretty volatile as it seems you need to get to the free spins to recoup inevitable piles of losses (which only happened once for me and took quite a while).
