Piratey spinning with a pretty high-effort presentation and bonus rounds designed to get the hook into you
Rage of the Seas (Netent, 2020)

You’ll see Rage Of The Seas listed as anything from “moderate” to “very high” volatility across the internet, I’m still not sure exactly where to put it but it’s definitely a “bonus chaser” with tons of dead spins and garbage fractional wins you have to hang through on your way to a more lucrative bonus session that catches you back up.
At least they give you strong theming during the process. It’s obviously going for a Pirates of the Caribbean vibe, particularly with the dramatic music, but the art is detailed with a lot of animations and it generally looks pretty cool. It’s also peppered with lots of amusing norfman sailor voice clips that sound like something out of Warcraft (I particularly liked the drunkard sea shanty chanting that appears over the regular music during free spins).
The reported RPT is just a hair over 96%, and just about all of that is coming from the bonus features, which do tend to be quite rewarding when you finally hit them. The game’s unique wrinkle is that you can choose a bonus for the duration of your free spins: a multiplier, reel expansion, stacking wilds, or spreading wilds. I haven’t done a deep strategy dive on this but the reel expansion adds another 3×3 to the standard 5×5 playfield and seems to be the choice to prioritize in bonus situations.
