A meme-ified wrapper for the classic online casino “Mines” game that makes a few other little tweaks to differentiate itself

Where to Buy: Free to play at Acebet (real money betting optionally available in certain regions)

An Acebet original (and exclusive as of this writing) that essentially takes the “Mines” game that has been at online casinos for years and overlays it with the “Keep Digging” diamond miner meme used to encourage problem gamblers to continue in their pursuits. The surprising twist is it also adds gory Space Quest-esque deaths to the mix.

So the goal is to actually NOT hit the mother lode, as that’ll get you drowned or incinerated or some such thing. If you’ve played Mines or Crash before you get the basic idea, though this is a slight variant on the gameplay of either. This one is deliberate and turn-by-turn, after each successful swing of the pick you choose whether to try your luck with another one or cash out. You can swing up to 25 times, with each successful swing upping the odds you’ll meet death on the next one.
The gimmick is, the first three swings have over 95% probability of success but also don’t win you anything. So it takes that many just to break even on the 1 SC or whatever you pay to play. From there it increases slowly along with the risk, first 0.1% profit per swing, then 0.2%, etc.

It might look like a good grinder at first, if you were to just say swing four times and then cart off your 0.1% profit endlessly. There’s kind of a Martingale thing at work here though, I mean that can work for a good clip, but eventually you will hit a death in your first four swings and it wipes out everything you gained and then some.

The odds say there’s about a 1 in 20 chance of that happening. The published hold at Acebet kinda confirms this at 10%, in not-so-good slots territory, but the numbers are a little more nuanced based on how long you hang in there. The math at Wizard of Odds for Mines basically holds up here I think.

The most noteworthy thing is it’s the first time I’ve seen a casino game combine lurid deaths with its action. I have no idea if there’s anything to this formula at this point but it’s not something you could get away with on a brick-and-mortar floor!
